Annnndddd we’re off! Kentucky Derby Marathon weekend!
And here we are, not during the actual Kentucky Derby however. My sister and I met up in Louisville the weekend prior to the actual acclaimed horse race. I’ll be honest, there really wasn’t much ado in Louisville during the Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon weekend. Yeah. I mean, it was kind of just being in Louisville was your options. We walked and toured the city, visited Churchill Downs and took a gallop through the museum. The half marathon race is amazing I will say, as the course takes runners in and through the actual horse stadium.
Arrival in the airport getting me pumped up for the race, excited to see the mentions of the marathon and mini-marathon!
My sister Libit drove from Ohio and picked me up. We made our way to the city and to a stretch of restaurants where she had visited a few years prior for a bachelorette weekend.
Ordered some appetizers, enojoyed a beer and took in just being in a different city.
At a Ham Bar!
This place was really cool restaurant, made from an old garage, outdoor seating area and a fake car crash out front.
Walked on down to see where the baseball bats Louisville sluggers are made and took a gander through the museum.
And we kept saying it’d be cool to try out a mint-julep or go along the bourbon trail. Spoiler alert… I don’t like liquor or whisky. Beer and wine is it for me. So, this giant fake mint julep is more enjoyable. Look at the people taking a good close look into the building behind me lol.
Dinner at a rotating restaurant, the best part was the delish french press coffee!
And lets not leave out that I matched the restaurant dress-code
Race day morning, dressed for the occasion! Let’s get those horses running!
And following are the professional pics from the race. Libit looks good! She was feeling a bit dizzy by mile 8 but finished strong with a great time! It would be about two hours after the race we decided to go to the ER, she wasn’t rebounding well and was even feeling extremely dehydrated.
Stopped into this pub for a sandwich and drink thinking that would help her getting her re-fueled and feeling better. But nothing was working.
Louisville Emergency Room! Not on the list of places to see but hey, they were a welcoming and helpful addition to our schedule. Got some fluids back in her, heartrate was looking better. Running takes a toll on the body.
Well-Recovered. Well-Fed. Well-Rested. We’re back feeling great, oysters for dinner and tried to try some bourbon but not for me. At all. Well-Fit Louisville weekend.
