WELL-FIT North Face Endurance50 with Dean Karnazes – Marathon 49

50 Marathons in 50 States in 50 Days

Throughout the first half of 2006, January to June, I was planning my wedding in Ohio while living in NJ. This while also working at WCBS, CBS News and News12 Networks. It didn’t allow for much time to get some distance running in and I was limited to races I could sign-up for considering I was going to be traveling for the wedding and the honemoon. Needless to say, our wedding was a success and right afterwards we honeymooned in Cabo! Beach, sunshine, giant waves and dirtbiking and quading in the back-roads of Baja.

Late June and onwards as I worked throughout the warm summer months, with the wedding planning out of theway, I was now able to get my mileage up. Trained plenty to make a trip to Bar Harbor Maine for the Mount Desert Island Marathon. It was wonderful, I highly recommend! Then, beginning in September, Dean Karnazes started his 50 marathons in 50 states in 50 days and was on his 49th marathon (in 49 days) in NJ by November 4th. I decided to join him in Long Branch for the Jersey Shore Marathon with Dean Karnazes. It wasn’t certified, which after the very first marathon I did in Rockland County I decided I would never run another marathon that isn’t certified; too many miles to not be “counted correctly”. But, I made an exception with this one as I thought it’d be a great experience.  It was fall, it was gorgeous outside. I drove down and joined the ultra runner on that Saturday before the Sunday ING NYC Marathon. I can’t remember my exact time, but we all stayed with Dean and he finished at 4:09, so that was our pace. Again, it was his 49th consecutive marathon. The next day he was running the NYC marathon for number 50. He did so and finished it at 3:30!

Long Branch beaches were beautiful! It was a perfect fall day to run!

At this time they had just recently built up the area nicely!

Here we all are before the race! If you see Dean in the middle, there are two men above him, then there’s me!!

And we’re off! He kept the run at about a 9 min/mile pace. Nice and comfortable.

I started to go too fast and realized he was behind me! So I slowed down.

When I finished I walked along the beach to cool down. There were a good deal of fishermen out enjoying the day!
