WELL-FIT Spring Break Fitspiration!

Spring Break is officially over. It was a a great stretch of days to get outside, really absorb some much needed spring-time air, spring-time sun and make our own spring-time fun!

When the week began, it was daunting… what am I going to do with these kids all day all week to keep them entertained, happy and well-fit! I always have Kali with me at home but obviously Nico goes to school, so that breaks up his day. I wanted him to spend tons of time outside, so everyday, like always, we played outside. But to mix it up since we had all day, I made sure each day featured something a little different from the day before. Monday we did our bike and ride on the bike trail, Nico riding 4.5 miles! I was impressed with him, he’s 6 years old and held strong and tough!

Tuesday we headed over to the park in town. It was pretty warm out, so Nico joined some kids to play in the stream! He was soaked. There are snakes that slither and swim by and he is obsessed with snakes so that was his goal, to find one and catch it. No luck though. No snakes for Sneaks.

While Nico was channeling his inner Jeremy Wade (the guy from River Monsters.)

Kali was on the big kid slide, going down over and over again, probably 57 times.

Once we returned home we had some sandpit time. Side note, prior to building our house here, this area was called “the sandpit” by the kids who grew up riding their bikes back here and we are now our friends with them today. It was called the sandpit because some parts are very dry. Last summer we had a “redneck” pool complete with a sandy beach so the kids could play and cool off in the water. The sand is beach-sand we brought in ourselves there’s no actual sand on the land here, just dry dirt and then also wetlands. The sand remains but the pool had to go once Kali figured out how to climb the ladder on her own at just 15 months old<—-video is below just to give you an idea of how easily a child, even a baby, can quickly get to deep water! Even when there is a ladder to climb! Dallas is such a good dog, every time she got to the top he would bark non-stop!

With our sand now still there, the land remains “the sandpit” but now with actual beach-sand!

Wednesday I got out the mountain bike and took the kids over the moto hills. I need a helmet, I know. But for this day I wasn’t attempting any Tim Knoll tricks, so it was ok. Nico again did great getting himself up and over the hills! And so did Kali, although she’s still learning how to balance her Strider bike. She’s a pretty incredible little girl. Almost 2 years old, she’s a tough go-getter. No fear!

Thursday we visited Grandma. It was time for bubbles! Spring Break is incomplete without bubbles!!!

Friday was beautiful again so we hiked the Appalachian Trail, going out about a mile and coming back.

Just so you know, the AT is marked with white “blazes” or white rectangles. In this photo above, we were on a side trail following the blue blazes, then below followed yellow and then came back to the AT.

Here’s an example of a white blaze from a hike we took Autumn of 2015:

At some parts it can get tricky. Look at the photo below, can you find the white blaze and the trail/path to follow? My friend Ashley and I have wondered off the marked trail only to realize we couldn’t find any blazes… no longer hiking the AT, we were just in the woods and had to backtrack to get back on the trail!!! It can become Blairwitch on you quickly if you don’t pay attention.

Ok, back to our beautiful Spring Break hike. We were never lost and we made it to the top for the view!

Eventually Kali wanted out of the backpack carrier to hike herself! #RaisingToughKids!

The weekend we got dirty!!! Mulching, planting flowers and… clearing an area for my garden!!!

Future Garden Spot!!!

Dan got the kids helping him groom the moto track too!

Nico is in the bobcat! If you check out my facebook page you’ll see a video of him here: Nico working the bobcat! He impresses me!! Track was groomed, sun was shining, Dan was so ready to hit the jumps!

The great thing is Spring Break is over and that means it’s all just beginning!!! The start of warm weather, of Spring, of flowers, of more green and longer days and gardening and tons of outdoor fun! We got our minds on Spring and Summer trips now, heading to New Hampshire and the Shore! And I’ve planned a half-marathon set in June and a full for early September!!! In the Teton Mountains!!! Weeks like this are so full of fitspiration! They get me so ready for the warmer months, to opt outside and to work on being more well-fit!!! I hope it gets you feeling fit too!
