Last week we had ourselves some good workouts, however they were still in our basement. The weather was pretty crappy for a few days.
I did nine (9) thrusters shown in the video followed by 35 single unders jump roping for 10 rounds. I still have so much room for improvement with my form and just overall getting stronger. And getting to understand the terminology. It’s learning an entirely new curriculum, complete with its own language, the common courtesy that should be practised as well as actually getting it right even when I’m told over and over and over how NOT to do it. If you see me explain/write something incorrectly let me know! Correct me, I’m still learning and I want to get it right!
The next day I did 21 Box Jumps, 18 Wall-Balls, 15 Kettlebell Swings and 12 Burpees for four(4) rounds.
Dan made the box for our Box Jumps, it’s perfect!
Coach Kali helps with the warm-ups on the rowing machine, then we’re off to do our workout and she’s off to play. Well, sometimes she’s off to play. More often than not she’s right there interrupting us.
We’ve used that box jump a few times now and I feel the burn! The workout video below consisted of 14 sit-ups, seven (7) box jumps and five (5) deadlifts, upping the weight by 10 lbs each round, repeating for 12 minutes. I was happy with myself that I felt the workout during the deadlift more in my legs and hamstrings and not in my lower back! And Kali decided she didn’t want to play, she joined us in the workout, continuing her routine on the row machine.
Again, I’ve got A LOT of room for improvement and goals to accomplish. I’m now fully immersed in not only Dan’s Crossfit Gym but also Dan’s Crossfit Class 101.
There’s little mistakes I’m making, with my posture, my shoulders being too rounded, my butt not being pushed out correctly, my legs in the right position. With the help of pictures, I do see the difference.
So I took my newfound education and attempted to use it during my next workout. This time, I was without Dan, so it was me and the kids; 10 hollow rocks, 10 toes to bar and 10 kettlebell swings for 8 minutes. I wanted to check my posture just by standing and also wanted to try to do a selfie-video doing kettlebell swings to see my legs and shoulders and just overall posture…
It never happened, I could never get the video in fear I was going to hit Kali in the head with the kettlebell, knocking her out. So instead I tried for just a weekly “standpoint” photo to see where I’m at physically. I hit selfie and then some type of filter unintentionally. It’s a cool filter, but made everything too dark. And there were the kids. Again and again and again. Always right there.
Having it just be me, there wasn’t anyone to make sure they stay out of the shot. So I just got what I got with them in most of the pics, if not all, and then did my workout. A few pics (ok, a lot) to make for an “after” shot from earlier times, but still these ARE “before” shots as I would like to be stronger. We’ve had some birthdays recently and so my well-defined part of life included knocking back some beers and wine to celebrate! It kind of put a halt on having a solid core <—- And that’s all good! Just gotta be sure to get back at it!
The kids are ready to be outside even when we’re in the basement filled to the brim with toys to play with. The outdoor itch is ready to be scratched!
The weekend arrived and it was soooo beautiful! I was ready to get out there! Time to opt outside! I was so excited to run in the sun and perfect weather, I combined my indoor workout with my outdoor running and it was awesome! On Sunday I did a one mile run, then ran straight to the side-door to the basement, did 50 pull-ups, 50 push-ups and 50 air-squats, then went back out to run a good, solid, hard one-mile! Doing 50-50-50 was a challenge, it was downscaled from the true crossfit version but now I know next time I can up the count and do the real thing!
Monday officially began Nico’s Spring Break and it is feeling very much like Spring! #LOVEIT! The last place I want to be when it’s finally beautiful and sunny and warm is in a dark basement. Or a gym. Or an office building. Or in front of a green screen. Or any indoor space that comprised my career for so many years! These outdoor days are what my thoughts would be consumed by when I was working inside! We packed up the Acadia and went to the bike path for a ride and run! A workout with the kids! Nico did awesomely! Six years old and he rode for a solid 4.5 miles!
My attempts at running selfies!
Taking an apple-fruit-packet-sauce break at mile 22! For us I think that was at about mile 3.5
After stopping to see a snake slither by and try to catch it, we’re back at it! Kali is still sleeping. I have to make sure she is super tired when we go or she’ll want to get out of the stroller and run. Or play. Or jump around. We’d be stranded on the bike path because she’d never want to get back in the stroller.
You may or may not be able to see there is a bug on my face. The entire time this bug was there, on my chin, and I had no idea. We went out, set to turn around at the 2 mile mark, but I missed it and went too far, so the complete distance was 4.5 miles. When we finished, I brushed off my sweat and began to eat an apple and there’s a bug crawling on my hand, finally deciding to fly away. Well-Fit with the kids and nature.
